Marian Aubry Appraisals and Estate Services has been in business for over 20 years. I have owned five antique stores and galleries during that time in Virginia, North Carolina, and in Florida. With a background in Interior Design from James Madison University in Virginia and an early passion for art and antiques, my first job entailed designing business interiors that showcased beautiful collections of art, antiques and collectibles. My appraisal reports are written for estate purposes, Insurance, as well as, Insurance Claims, Divorce and Equitable Distribution, Guardianship, and for the Non-Cash Charitable Donation requirements of the IRS.
In 1995, I pursued an education in Appraisal Studies at George Washington University in Alexandria, Virginia which included special connossieurship classes in Antique Oriental Rugs and Carpets, Fine and Estate Jewelry, Porcelains, Furniture, Silver and Collectible Glass. The learning never ends, however, and I continue to take specialty classes to sharpen my understanding in these areas. My education has also included special industry coursework qualifying my reports for insurance purposes, the IRS and the courts.
I joined the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) in 2002 completing coursework in Appraisal Practice, Methodology, Research, and Report Writing. Membership in ISA mandates re-qualification every five years, as well as, the adherence to strict ethical conduct, and compliance with the most recent USPAP standards necessary for qualified report writing for the IRS.
I have attained the level of CAPP (Certified Appraiser of Personal Property) and specialize in Fine Art and Residential Contents including Antiques and Collectibles, however, over 25 years I have appraised many items including one-of-a-kind, special items and entire collections of fine and decorative art and collectibles.
My reports are very comprehensive, and include whatever documentation is necessary to enhance the understanding of value for my clients. The reports include market research and analysis as well as digital photography.
I am honored to have been elected to the Board of Directors of ISA by my peers. ISA is the largest international association of personal property appraisers.
